The death of a “deeply generous, selfless and community-minded” young Brisbane man in London will be investigated in a coronial inquest.
Fletcher Beasley fell from a height on June 25 at the Victoria Embankment, which passes under Waterloo Bridge in the central district of the English capital.
He was 21 years old.
The young man attended Brisbane Boys’ College, and worked at a law firm while completing his fourth year of a business and law degree.
He was in London with friends at the time of his death.
The Victoria Embankment is a popular stretch along the northern bank of the River Thames.
“We were called at 2.03am on Thursday … to reports of an injured person,” a London Ambulance Service spokesperson said.
“We sent an ambulance crew, paramedics in fast response cars, an advanced paramedic and an incident response officer. We also dispatched a trauma team in a car from London’s Air Ambulance.
“Despite the efforts to save his life, a man sadly died at the scene.”
Beasley’s family had initially planned to hire a private investigator to probe the death, but later confirmed they would first let the London coroner hold an inquest.
“He was our perfect boy,” parents Katrina and Matt Beasley said.
“Fletcher shared a beautiful relationship with his long-term partner Angelina and made the most of life with the people he loved.
“He was funny, loyal, curious about the world, and deeply generous and community minded.
“His loss leaves an immeasurable absence, but his warmth, kindness and love will continue to shape the lives of all who were lucky enough to know him.”
A note on an online fundraiser said it would help the family and close friends rebuild their lives, bring Beasley’s body home and seek “justice”.
“With so many reaching out to the families of Fletcher and Angelina with offers of support and assistance, this fund is our answer and will offer enormous assistance to help us all move forward whilst finding justice for the passing of our beautiful boy,” it said.
“If you can contribute to this fund, we will continue Fletcher’s legacy of goodness, kindness and generosity whilst helping us navigate the most difficult of times.”
On Thursday afternoon it had raised almost $60,000.
In a message on the page, the parents described their son as “deeply generous, selfless and community minded.”
“It is impossibly unfair that he has been taken after only 21 years, however he lived a beautiful, but far too short, life.”
