Cyclist, 83, dies after Tingalpa crash; two teens on e-bike struck in Coolangatta

Police are investigating a series of traffic incidents over the weekend, including a fatal crash in which an elderly man was killed.

Emergency services were called to the intersection of Wynnum and Murarrie Road in Tingalpa around 6am on Saturday following reports of a crash involving a car and an 83-year-old cyclist.

The cyclist, a Balmoral man, was rushed to Princess Alexandra Hospital but passed away a short time later.

The driver of the car, a 50-year-old Murarrie man, was not injured and is assisting the Forensic Crash Unit investigation.

Meanwhile, on the Gold Coast, police were investigating a hit-and-run in Coolangatta overnight that left two teenage girls seriously injured.

A white Mitsubishi Express van was seen travelling west on Marine Parade just after 7pm before colliding with an e-bike travelling east in the bicycle lane on the same road.

The van driver did not stop to provide assistance to the teenagers, instead fleeing across the NSW border.

The e-bike rider and passenger, both 15, were taken to Gold Coast University Hospital with serious injuries.
