A man found hiding underwater in a large pond has been arrested after a fatal shooting south of Brisbane overnight.
About 10.40pm on Tuesday, police and emergency services were called to Hugh Muntz Park in Beenleigh, following reports a man had been shot.
Police found a 35-year-old Bahrs Scrub man with a gunshot wound to his chest, near Morrison Lane.
Officers and paramedics treated the man at the scene, but he died a short time later.
Police allege a stolen white Kia Stonic sedan, with stolen registration plates, left the scene a short time after the shooting.
Officers saw the car at Kumbari Avenue in Labrador on the Gold Coast and rolled out a tyre deflation device on Jabiru Island.
The car continued for a short distance, before the driver abandoned it at the intersection of Hope Island Road and Helensvale Road, and ran away into nearby scrub.
Dog squad officers swept the area and arrested a 22-year-old Beenleigh man a short time later, allegedly finding him hiding underwater, among the reeds, of a large pond in Saltwater Park.
The man was searched and police allegedly found ammunition.
