The rumors began when profiles such as Prometeo, Breve y Claro and News spread on Facebook and TikTok that President Nayib Bukele’s daughter had been kidnapped and that, hours later, she was supposedly found dead with signs of violence.
Another video claimed that the girl was taken to a hospital, but that she was already deceased. A theory is also circulating that the six-year-old girl may have been poisoned.
The situation escalated when a clip went viral in which Nayib Bukele allegedly appears next to a coffin—presumably that of his daughter—and where he supposedly says, “They took away what I loved most, and I will respond with everything I have.” This video has further fueled misinformation and concern on social media.
