A person has been rescued from a seven-storey building in Milton that caught fire shortly before 2pm on Wednesday.
Emergency services were called to Little Cribb Street, within the Milton Green precinct across the road from Suncorp Stadium, about 1.50pm after reports of smoke coming from the building’s roof.
Firefighters said the blaze was mostly contained to the top floor of the building, which was a mixed-use commercial and residential structure measuring about 40 metres by 40 metres.
When fire crews searched the building, they found the person on the seventh floor.
They could not be evacuated on foot because of doubts over the structural integrity of the building, and were instead rescued using a cherry-picker.
Paramedics arrived at the scene shortly after 10 fire crews, and treated the person, who had been lowered from the rooftop shortly before 3pm.
The building had been undergoing construction work for about a year, with scaffolding still attached to its exterior.
Milton Green management advised tenants of other buildings in the precinct not to evacuate.
“The fire alarm was successfully triggered, and the fire brigade trucks are currently on site managing the incident,” the notice from management said.
Police at the scene were assisting with traffic flow to keep cars away from the structure, with a section of Little Cribb Street closed.
The blaze had been contained by 2.15pm, but by 3pm was still not extinguished.
