MILLIONS of Americans are gearing up for a series of three-day weekends thanks to a calendar quirk.
As summer finally arrives in the US, the first of the long weekends is just days away.
With some federal summer holidays falling on weekends, Americans will be given extra time off in the days surrounding those holidays, turning them into long weekends.
The first three-day weekend coming up falls every year thanks to a longstanding rule that has been in place for decades.
Memorial Day – which is always on the last Monday of the month – will be celebrated on Monday, May 25, this year.
This means the holiday weekend starts this Saturday, May 23.
