With some federal summer holidays falling on weekends, Americans will be given extra time off in the days surrounding those holidays, turning them into long weekends.

The first three-day weekend coming up falls every year thanks to a longstanding rule that has been in place for decades.

Memorial Day – which is always on the last Monday of the month – will be celebrated on Monday, May 25, this year.

This means the holiday weekend starts this Saturday, May 23.
