The gun training combination of Annabel and Rob Archibald will send a number of runners to Newcastle on Thursday with apprentice Mollie Fitzgerald partnering two of the stable’s chances in the shape of Reign ’Em In and Clubman in races two and seven respectively.
The 1.5-kilogram claimer Fitzgerald will ride Reign ’Em In in the Horsepower Feeds & Suppliments Maiden Handicap (900m) and Clubman in The Prince Of Merewether Conditional Benchmark 68 Handicap (1500m).
Reign ’Em In has only had one start and finished second at Wyong in that event on April 4. Clubman, meanwhile, is a two-time winner from nine starts and resumes from a spell on the back of two barrier trials.
Jockey Braith Nock will also ride two of the Archibald runners when he is legged aboard Checks’n’balances in the Davali Thoroughbreds Maiden Plate (1250m) and St Faith’s in the New Era Technology Class 1 Handicap (1250m).
Checks’n’balances has been unplaced in each of two starts at Scone and Muswellbrook but looks open to improvement, while St Faith’s won at Scone when resuming from a spell in January and has been down the track in two runs behind Zing To Me since then.
Southern Prince, to be ridden by Deon Le Roux, is the other Archibald starter in action at Newcastle and he will clash with Clubman.
Southern Prince won two on end at Kembla Grange last September and October before finishing fifth in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes at Randwick when beaten just over three lengths.
Southern Prince has had two trials in preparation for his return to racing.
Jason Collett has another solid book of rides at Newcastle and will link with local trainer Kris Lees when steering Spice Trail in the Dailey Family Funerals 2YO Maiden Plate (900m) and Oakfield Mamselle in the New FM/2HD Provincial Benchmark 64 Handicap (1850m).
Collett will ride two John Sargent trained runners when partnering World Wide in the Sharp Office Midway Maiden Handicap (1400m) and Change My Address when it lines up against Clubman and Southern Prince.
He will rode Chatterley against Checks’n’balances, while he is on Borjnord in the same race St Faith’s contests.
