A woman in her 70s has been seriously injured after she was hit by a police car.
She was walking at the intersection of Sheridan Street and Lily Street in Cairns about 7am on Thursday when the car struck her, police said.
She suffered life-threatening injuries.
The officers inside the car immediately provided first aid to the woman.
She was then treated by paramedics and transported to Cairns Hospital.
Police closed off Lily Street between Digger Street and Sheridan Street.
