The US president has been evacuated from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner in Washington DC after gunshots were heard.
Secret Service rushed the stage around 8.30pm and escorted President Donald Trump and other dignitaries from the long table at the front of the room.
Footage showed guests at the black tie dinner crouching under their tables.
Secret Service agents inside the ballroom yelled “shots fired” and “stay down” as Trump and cabinet members were rushed out. The shooter was not inside the room. CNN is reporting the shooter is dead.
The annual gala for White House journalists is being held at the Washington Hilton hotel.
The dinner has just been told that the program will be resuming shortly.
