The 23-year-old is accused of attacking the 15-year-old girl on May 11 while on duty making deliveries in Hampton.

According to reports, he was familiar with the victim, which likely contributed to him gaining her trust and getting her in the vehicle.

Gutama was arrested after the terrified child went to teachers at school who then phoned the police.

A joint investigation was launched between the police department and the USPS inspector general’s office before the arrest was made.

He has also been charged with endangering the welfare of a child.

If found guilty of raping a minor in the first degree, a class B felony, Gutama could get up to 25 years behind bars.

A minimum sentence of five years is required under New York state law for this crime.

Meanwhile, endangering the welfare of a child can be punished with up to one year in jail.

The U.S. Sun has reached out to USPS for comment as well as the police department for an update on his custody status and if he has entered a plea.

The case serves as a haunting reminder of that of Athena Strand, 7, from Florida, who was killed in the back of a FedEx truck by the driver who lured her inside while delivering her Christmas present in November 2022.

Her killer, Tanner Horner, 34, was sentenced to death by lethal injection earlier this month.
